Top Tricks to get your kitchen sparkling

Being able to walk into a kitchen that is sparkling clean is a sense of relief - and you begin to wonder how you can get it to look like this every time.

It can be difficult to maintain the cleanliness of your kitchen due to the odd spill and drop here and there, from the general day to day duties in the kitchen. But rather than a simple wipe with just a wet cloth, why not take it that step further and have that dazzling shine instead?

Here are some top tips that can help you work towards a cleaner, hygienic kitchen:

Sink: Your sink is one of the main places where everything gets thrown in to; a mix of bacteria from meats, vegetables and sauces, as well as drinks all come into contact with your sink. To prevent the spread of germs and cross contamination between surfaces, you can use a multipurpose cleaner to spray your sink down after use. However, if you fancy a deep clean, then you can do the following:

Add 1 cup of bleach to your sink and fill with hot water. Leave it to set for around half an hour, and then pull the plug. Use gloves to remove any bleach or soap scum that is left. For that added sparkle, you can choose to add a small amount of baking powder, which will ensure that it is free from bacteria and will also look extra clean.

This will be suitable for a variety of different sinks including cast iron sinks, porcelain sinks and stainless steel sinks.

Stubborn stains are inevitably going to exist around your kitchen, but try to avoid using overly strong solutions. Stick with using bleach and hot water, or even add half a lemon to add a fresh scent.  You can then rub this into the stains and with some elbow grease, they should come out. It may take more than one try at this, but eventually the stain should disappear – after all you don’t want to build a ground for bacteria to grow on.

Your work tops are another important part of your kitchen. Like your sinks they come into contact with everything that you prepare before cooking, so it’s vital to ensure that the worktop is clean and germ free.  You should always use different chopping boards for cutting up meat, and vegetables. All worktops should be sprayed with a disinfectant to avoid the spread of germs. Use a cloth with warm water on top of this to wipe down for maximum cleanliness.

Cleaning your floor is also important; it often collects dust and dirt very quickly, so it should be cleaned weekly with bleach and hot water. If you are looking to use a mop on ceramic tiles, you could use hot water with a small amount of washing up liquid. This will be less harsh on your tiles than a scourer or scrubbing pad.
